Good Samaritan on Surrey bus dies of stabbing injuries

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A teenager who was stabbed while trying to stop a fight on a bus in Surrey has died of his injuries.

Jamie Kehoe, 18, was riding on a transit bus along 72 Ave. near 128 St. after midnight on Saturday when he witnessed a fight, and decided to try to stop it.

In the process he was stabbed and taken to hospital, and that’s where he died.

Descriptions of two people involved are vague. “Possibly a taller black male with a female fleeing the scene. I believe he’s been described six foot to six-foot-two,” says Jennifer Pound, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit.

Gavin Davies, the vice president of the Canadian Autoworkers Union Local 111 which represents bus drivers, says driving a transit bus especially at night is fraught with danger.

“We’re dealing with a lot of people with serious mental health issues that are out on the streets. We’re dealing with a lot of people on buses that have a short fuse. You don’t know what their triggers are going to be,” he notes.

“The suburban routes like Port Coquitlam, White Rock, Surrey and Tsawwassen are left with almost no security and road supervisors, as those teams head into the downtown core. We desperately need a big increase in police and security,” he adds.

Police are still looking for anyone who may have seen the suspects or the stabbing to give them a call.
