OSHAWA, Ont. – An Oshawa toddler suffered serious head injuries Sunday, after a large television fell on the youngster at home.

The 20-month-old boy was seriously injured but is now at Sick Kids Hospital, where he is expected to pull through.

The incident happened at the toddler’s home on Ritson Road, in Oshawa, as he and his siblings were watching television.

The nearly 25-kilogram television was on a small television stand on wheels before it fell, landing on the boy and nearly crushing him.

Durham police Sgt. Nancy Van Roy says the boy should be fine.

“He has received excellent care and had to undergo surgery, I understand that his injuries are not life-threatening, and we are hoping he makes a full recovery,” Van Roy said.

Durham police are hoping people will take a lesson from the boy’s injuries.

“We’re taking a story that was unfortunate, and we’re trying to spin it and make it a positive outcome, reaching others just to remind them that with young children, things can happen quickly,” Van Roy said.
