The NDP says it will forward a file of G8 documents to the RCMP for possible investigation. The documents appear to show cabinet minister Tony Clement sidestepped bureaucratic controls in spending 50-million dollars in his Ontario riding.
They include emails between Clement and the mayor of Huntsville, Ontario.
NDP critic Charlie Angus says the whole matter needs investigation by the Commons Ethics Committee.
“If the Conservatives feel they have done nothing wrong, then they should certainly be willing to have the mayors, and the bureaucrats and even the minister come to our committee to explain what was going on in this misspending of money. We need to get to the bottom of this boondoggle.”
