2 men, 1 woman drown trying to rescue children from Quebec river

SAGUENAY, Que. – Two men and a woman drowned Saturday night trying to rescue their children from a river in Quebec’s northeast Saguenay region.

Quebec provincial police say the incident happened around 6 p.m. when a six-year-old and eight-year-old boy waded too far into the current of the Wapishish River.

Investigators say the boys’ fathers and one of their mothers jumped into the water to try to rescue them.

One of the children was quickly brought to shore and the other was rescued later by another woman with life jackets.

But none of the three parents who first jumped into the river survived.

Police are still investigating the incident.
