Councillor Doug Ford meets Margaret Atwood at arts event

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto Councillor Doug Ford now knows exactly what author Margaret Atwood looks like.

The councillor and award-winning Canadian author met at a farewell party for the mayor’s arts adviser Tuesday night.

Councillor Michael Thompson told 680News he was chatting with Atwood when he spotted Ford and decided to introduce them.

“He was very accommodating, he was smiling, he was very warm to her, and she equally was smiling and warm to him,” Thompson said.

The two have been in a public fight over Ford’s push to close libraries, but his brother, Mayor Rob Ford, insists libraries will remain open.

Atwood quickly tweeted about the encounter: “T-pals, UnBLeevAbul! I just met D. Ford! At a NotTimmies Arts Party! (He knows what I look like now! Sez #libraries will not be cut!”
