BC Lions notch fourth win a row

CALGARY, AB (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions knocked off the first place Stampeders 32-19.  Quarterback Travis Lulay threw two touchdown passes and Paris Jackson blocked a third quarter punt, which Tim Cronk ran in for a TD.

The BC defence allowed it’s first touchdown in 15 quarters, when Henry Burris connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass to Larry Taylor in the third quarter. The last TD scored on BC prior to that was by the Blue Bombers in the third quarter on August 13 at Empire Field.

At the start of the third quarter, Lulay hooked up with Akeem Foster on a 48-yard touchdown. With just under nine minutes to go in the game, Arland Bruce collected a Lulay pass and ran it in from 41 yards out. Rolly Lumbala scored the other BC major.

In addition to picking up Jackson’s blocked punt and running it in for the major, Cronk recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter which was forced by a hit by Calgary native Marco Iannuzzi.

Paul McCallum booted a first half field goal from 47 yards. The veteran kicker has made 22 straight three pointers.

Veteran Lions receiver Geroy Simon nabbed his 900th career reception in the first half.

The Lions are now 5-6 after winning five of their last six games. BC travels to Regina to meet Saskatchewan next Saturday afternoon.
