Poll shows tight race in final month before Ontario provincial election

TORONTO, Ont. – You’ve likely already heard or seen the campaign commercials, as the major provincial parties appear ready to do whatever they can to attract your vote and attention.

With only a month to go until the Oct. 6 provincial election, a new Nanos Research poll shows the race is so tight it truly is anybody’s to take.

The poll gives the Tim Hudak led Tories a slim lead, but with even more people than usual saying they are still undecided, anything can happen in the final month.

The Tories are up 4 points at 35.4 per cent, over the Dalton McGuinty led Liberals, who the poll finds are sitting at 31.9 per cent support.

Support for the NDP has grown over the previous month, up to 22.8 per cent, while the Green Party is in fourth with four per cent support.

Here in the GTA, a deadlock between the Liberals and Conservatives with both parties hovering around the 30 per cent support mark.

On the key question of who would make the best premier, Dalton McGuinty came out on top, with 29 per cent selecting him over the 24 per cent who selected Hudak.
