TORONTO, Ont. – A popular pet store chain in the GTA will no longer be selling puppies as of September 1.
PJ’s Pets said it is switching its focus from puppy sales to puppy adoption, as part of a company plan to promote adoption from animal shelters to humane societies.
Puppies make up seven per cent of the chain’s business, even though only six of PJ’s Pets’ 41 stores sells dogs.
The puppies can cost up to $1,500.
The change in policy affects PJ’s Pets stores at Sherway Gardens, Scarborough Town Centre, Pickering Town Centre, Yonge-Eglinton Centre and Bramalea City Centre.
