Riot hero being recognized

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local sous-chef is being recognized today for his heroic actions during the Stanley Cup riot.

Robert Mackay stood up to a group of hooligans outside The Bay during last month’s chaos.

The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is giving Robert Mackay its highest honour for an employee, “The Chairman’s Award of Merit”, for the heroism he showed on the night of the Stanley Cup Final.

The award is being presented as Vancouver Police continue to go through the thousands of images from the riot.

Investigators are sifting through 15,000 photos and up to 1,600 hours of video. In some cases, the videos are being screened frame by frame.

So far 34 people have turned themselves in.
