Thunderstorm watch, humidex and smog alert in effect for southern Ontario

SOUTHERN ONTARIO – Another weather alert has been added to the list in effect Saturday morning.

Severe thunderstorms watch, a humidex advisory and a smog alert is in effect right across southern Ontario, including the GTA.

A humidex advisory in effect for areas west of the GTA; from Windsor up through Sarnia, London and Waterloo, and extending up to the Bruce Peninsula.

It will be a sticky, smoggy day as you are being advised to take it easy. Humidex values could reach 40 in those areas today.

As for the smog alert, 680 meteorologist Harold Hossein said we can help by not using gas powered machinery today.

“Air mask will cover southern Ontario today. It will be a “spare the air day.” Environment Canada has issued a smog advisory.”

“We expect elevated pollution and everyone is encouraged to spare the air by taking public transit or car pooling.”

“The air quality index is expected to exceed 50, so if you can avoid any unnecessary car trips and things such as power boats and lawnmowers, that would be a help for the atmosphere,” said Hossein.
