Ontario voters looking for change: poll

TORONTO, Ont. – With the provincial election less than four months away, a new poll finds the Conservatives are leaving their competition in the dust.

The Forum Research survey found Tory leader Tim Hudak’s approval rating sits at a respectable 53 per cent, while Premier Dalton McGuinty’s rating was less impressive at 36 per cent.

Perhaps following a voting trend from federal politics, it appears voters like what they are hearing from Hudak and the Conservatives.

Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research, told 680News it seems voters in the province are looking for change.

“The Tories are leading at 41 per cent, followed by the Liberals at 26 per cent and the NDP at 22 per cent,” Boznioff said. “Based on these results you put the Tory at 65 seats, the Liberals at 23 and the NDP at 19.”

When asked about a Tory plan to put convicted prisoners to work, nearly 70 per cent of those polled were in support of it.

A strong number of respondents were in favour of removing the HST on Hydro and home heating bills, with 84 per cent saying they would like a break on their home heating bills.

The provincial election is set to take place on Oct. 6.
