COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – Are we any closer to getting the long awaited Evergreen Line built on the Lower Mainland? On Tuesday, a special meeting between BC’s Transportation Minister Blair Lekstrom and Metro Vancouver mayors will be held.
The line was proposed back in 1986 when Lou Sekora was the Mayor of Coquitlam. He says the project started off at $1.2 billion and now the cost has climbed to $1.4 billion.
Sekora, who’s now a City Councillor says the project’s $400 million dollar shortfall should not be coming out of property taxes or vehicle levies as some politicians have suggested.
He doubts that Tuesday’s meeting will amount to much. But Sekora says if the mayors make the wrong decision, they’ll be voted out of office in November’s municipal election.
