Canucks fans irked scalpers try to get last minute tickets

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A lottery is supposed to determine which Canucks fans lined up at Rogers Arena will be able to get ticket to Game 7. But not everyone who’s waiting actually wants to see the game.

“Game 5, there were only maybe about 50 people and most of them were homeless people employed by scalpers,” says Leo, who’s been waiting in line since about 7 a.m.

He thinks it’s unfair he has to compete with scalpers. “For them to employ a bunch of people… it kind of sucks. They’ve already got their hands on lots of tickets, and these ticket releases are meant to give to die-hard fans who’ve waited it out.”

“Even if I get tickets, they might be as expensive as $900,” he adds. “It kind of sucks, because we’re not getting the cheap ones. Scalpers get all the cheap ones.”

Leo admits the ticket lottery makes it a little more fair for the fans, but wishes more can be done.

Orca and Bear fans getting along — for now.

Things will change when the puck drops at 5 p.m., but so far, Canucks fans and Bruins fans seem to be co-existing peacefully outside Rogers Arena.

News1130 has found some conspicuous black and yellow in a sea of blue, green, and white. But it seems nobody’s booing the Bruins fan!

“I gotta respect the Canucks fans because they have more respect than the Bruins fans in Boston,” says Aaron, who’s sporting his Milan Lucic jersey.

“I think everybody’s nervous around here, just as nervous as I am,” he says, adding Canucks fans have left him alone so far.

Win or lose tonight, Aaron expects a much different reception after the game. The only question is whether it will be happy or angry Canucks fans getting in his face.

Fans line up outside bars bright and early

Canucks fans started lining up outside the Shark Club on Georgia just after 9 a.m.

“I flew in just for this game,” says one fan. “I don’t have tickets, but the next best thing is to sit in a great pub.”

“I flew in from Calgary at 7 a.m.,” explains another. “I’m taking the day off. I’m flying out tomorrow at 7 a.m.!”

“Half the country’s going to go nuts when this victory happens,” one man exclaims. “The other half… can forget about it!”

Drivers — many with Canucks car-flags streaming in the wind — have been honking their horns in support of the crowd.
