Truck, bus safety blitz begins today

TORONTO, Ont. – There could be delays near highway truck inspection sites this week.

The Ministry of Transportation has launched a three-day truck and bus safety blitz, beginning today. They will be checking to make sure loads are properly secured, that drivers have the correct qualifications and have properly completed daily inspection reports and logs.

Unsafe vehicles will be parked immediately and could be impounded for up to 60 days.

Operators face fines of up to $20,000 and up to $50,000 for wheel separation offences.

This is the 23rd year Ontario has taken part in this annual international safety event during which inspectors typically look over 2,500 vehicles.
