Public to get closer look at new subway trains

TORONTO, On. –  The public can get a close-up look at one of Toronto’s new subway trains, Sunday, which have been called safer, more accessible and less “germy.”

The Toronto Transit Commission will be showing off the new rocket from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Davisville station.

There are no separations between cars on the new trains, providing more room for riders and allowing them to walk freely from one end to the other

“Because of that open gangway concept, we have the ability to get more people on a train. About eight to ten per cent more passengers can board this train,” TTC spokesman Brad Ross said.

The seats, poles and handrails are all treated with an antimicrobial coating, which will help prevent the spread of sicknesses.

The first of the new trains rolls into service on the Yonge-University-Spadina line in June.
