Police investigate after fumes reach near-explosive levels at sleep clinic

TORONTO, On. – Toronto police are investigating a possible arson at a west end sleep clinic, located in the Eglinton Avenue West and Highway 427 area.  

Police told 680News, a staffer at the 900 The East Mall clinic called to report a chemical smell, Tuesday morning.

When firefighters arrived, they found “an accelerant” had been poured into the stairwell, and empty plastic bottles nearby. Fume levels present on scene were so high they were reaching explosive levels.

CityNews reported the fumes were from kerosene or gasoline.

Staff were evacuated from the premises for the investigation.
