First tornado of the year confirmed in Fergus, On.

FERGUS, On. – The first tornado of the year was confirmed in the Fergus, On. area.

The twister touched down during a series of powerful thunderstorms that swept through Southern Ontario on April 27.

The tornado was rated zero on the Fujita scale with winds up to 110 kilometres per hour.

On average, Ontario gets about 12 tornadoes a season, which runs from late April to early October.
