Police say suspect in York U sex assault also wanted for other offence

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred inside the Seneca College building on the York University campus earlier this week.

The arrest comes after a 20-year-old York University student was sexually assaulted twice in the building’s main hall Thursday around 4 p.m.

The victim was walking on the campus when she noticed a man following her closely.  When she entered the Seneca building the attacks began.

The first assault occurred in the main hall, while the second assault occurred in an office after the student desperately tried to get away from the offender.

A man who matched the suspect’s description was spotted later that day by a police officer performing unrelated paid duty at Keele Street and Murray Ross Parkway.

The officer eventually linked the man to an earlier incident, as well as the sexual assault at Seneca. It is believed he lives on the York University campus but is not a student.

The 30-year-old man is charged with sexual assault in the Seneca case and indecent exposure in a separate incident. He is set to appear in court Sunday.
