Warmer summer than normal, Environment Canada says

TORONTO, On. – Environment Canada is calling for a drier and warmer-than-normal summer across Canada this year.

After a roller-coaster of wild spring weather in southern Ontario, including severe thunderstorm warnings and flurries, many Torontonians are counting down the days until shorts and sunshine.

They won’t have to wait long, either.

The climatologist for Environment Canada, David Phillips, predicts the cold and drizzle will soon be coming to an end. The nice weather is expected to begin late this month, and continue into June and July.

Phillips told the CBC that preliminary evidence indicated warmer and drier-than-average conditions for the city, but it is still early to be sure.

“It’s been way too cold and wet,” one commuter at Union station told 680News, Wednesday.

“It’s [been] sucky [weather],” another said.

But while some transit riders complained about the disappointing spring, others were focused on the future.

“It’s good news because I am a gardener, so it’s nice to have a lot of sun,” a summer enthusiast explained.

Last spring was the warmest spring in in 63 years, with temperatures averaging two to four degrees higher than this year.
