Online voting coming to Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The City of Vancouver has decided to experiment with Internet voting. Vancouverites will be able to vote online during advance polling in November’s civic election.

Concerns over voter fraud were raised by council before the decision.

“Of all the municipalities that have used online voting in Canada since 2003, the only thing that has been experienced is the slowing up of Internet servers,” explains Vancouver Chief Election Officer Janice Mackenzie.

Forty other Canadian municipalities have tried online voting already, and they have generally seen a two-to-four per cent increase in voter turnout.
