Federal Election: A Voter’s FYI

TORONTO, On. – This is the fourth time Canadians will head to the polls in seven years, and 680News has complied need-to-know information for voters. 

Poll Times:
9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m

To find the address your election day poll, look on your voter information card. You can also find the address in the Voter Information Service, which provides information on your electoral district and member of Parliament, on this site or by calling Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868.

Identification information:

Option 1: one original piece of identification with your photo, name and address. It must be issued by a government agency.

Example Driver’s license

Option 2: Show two original pieces of authorized identification. Both pieces must have your name and one must also have your address.

Example: Birth Certificate and Canadian passport

Option 3: Take an oath and have an elector who knows you vouch for you (both of you will be required to make a sworn statement). This person must have authorized identification and their name must appear on the list of electors in the same polling division as you. This person can only vouch for one person and the person who is vouched for cannot vouch for another elector.

Example: a neighbour, roommate.

Today, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff will cast his vote just before 10 a.m. at Sir Adam Beck Junior School in Etobicoke.

NDP Leader Jack Layton will cast his ballot with his family at 10 a.m. at the Cecil Street Community Centre in the west end.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper votes in his riding in Calgary at 11 a.m.
