Jack Layton responds to Sun Media’s allegations involving a suspected bawdy house

TORONTO, Ont. – New allegations have been made on NDP leader, Jack Layton. The Sun News Network reported Layton had been found naked in a Toronto massage parlour back in 1996.

The News organization said they obtained the notebook of a police officer that had been involved in a raid on a suspected bawdy house.

Layton was still a city councillor at the time of this incident and when asked if he had known that there may be illegal acts happening in the clinic, he said he had no clue.

Police claimed that when they entered the massage parlour, a man was found lying naked on a table.

The unnamed officer told the Sun that Layton was surprised to find out the illegal acts may have occurred at the parlour.

The officers questioned Layton and then told him he could go because there was no reason to arrest him.

Layton said he did nothing wrong.

“It’s unfortunate to see these smear campaigns starting in these last few days of the campaigns. Absolutely nothing wrong was done, there’s no wrong doing here but yet the smears start.”

“This is why a lot of people get turned off politics and don’t even want to get involved, and I think it’s very unfortunate,” said Layton at an unscheduled press conference in Vancouver Island.

Layton’s wife, Olivia Chow jumped to Layton’s defence. She issued a statement saying she had been aware of the appointment and Jack told her what happened.

Chow said, any suggestion he did something wrong is utterly false.

The officer who conducted the interview with Layton, admitted he was not fond of Layton as a councillor; However, he was not arrested or charged in the incident.
