VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Alex Burrows scored the overtime winner at the 5:22 mark of the first overtime in Game 7 to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 win over Chicago, clinching the series for Vancouver.
Burrows went from nearly being the goat to the saviour in the extra frame. Just 24 seconds into overtime Burrows took a holding penalty, but his team was able to kill it off, leading to his historic goal, his second on the night, almost exactly five minutes later.
Vancouver outhit the ‘Hawks 41-17 in the game, taking a page out of the book that helped them secure a 3-0 lead to start the series.
Roberto Luongo made 31 saves in the win while his counterpart Corey Crawford stopped 36 shots.
The Canucks beat Chicago for the first time in three tries over the last three years in the post-season and move on to the Western Conference semi-finals to face the Nashville Predators.
