Surge of support for Layton, poll shows; Ignatieff urges Canadians to “rise up”

OTTAWA, On. – Support for New Democrat’s Jack Layton has increased, according to the latest Nanos poll for The Globe and Mail.

The NDP party is up to 22.1 per cent, but that is at the expense of Michael Ignatieff’s Liberal party, which is down to 26.7 per cent.

The poll shows Stephen Harper’s Conservative party holding steady at 39 per cent voter support.

The Liberals are hoping to give their campaign a boost with a 30-minute television special on Citytv, Sunday, and it promises to feature clips of Igantieff’s recent speeches urging voters to “rise up” against the Conservatives.

The show will air at 2 p.m., and will broadcast in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.

Today, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper campaigns in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia; Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is in Montreal; Jack Layton is in Toronto and Brampton.
