Canadians paying more than Americans on identical products

TORONTO, Ont. – A new price survey found that even though the loonie is worth more than the U.S. greenback, Canadians are still paying 20 per cent more than Americans on everything from iPods to running shoes.

The BMO study is expected to be released later on Thursday.

Canadian retailers said they charge more because they have to pay more than American retailers do and face higher import tariffs.

“It should be at equal value now, and it’s not,” one consumer told 680News.

One shopper named Andrew told 680News he orders a lot of goods online from the United States because it’s cheaper, until you add the shipping and duty fees.

“It’s like the shipping companies are trying to bring the price down for the American stuff, so that we use them to ship it up here,” he said.
