Many took to Twitter to voice opinions during leaders’ debate

TORONTO, Ont. – The English-language leaders’ debate on Tuesday was all ‘a-Twitter.’

If the social media space was any indication, a lot of people tuned into the English-language debate, since it was a top trending topic across the country.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper’s stare and NDP Leader Jack Layton’s use of the hashtag #fail were just some of the top trending topics.

Many used the hashtag #db8 to make their points, such as this one:

“Stephen Harper is still staring at the same thing … what’s he staring at?” This referred to the Conservative leader not really looking at his opponents, and instead, looking into the camera.

Many enjoyed when Layton brought Twitter into the debate.

One man tweeted: “Jack Layton said both hashtag #fail and used the word #bling … looks like his new hip really is hip.”

Others were not impressed with the debate set. One woman wrote: “Is the debate taking place in the ’70s? Whoa on the retro room.”
