Canucks to face Chicago in the first round of the playoffs

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The NHL’s best team in the regular season, Vancouver, will meet the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

It came down to the final game of the regular season. Minnesota defeated Dallas 5-3 to eliminate the Stars and give Chicago a chance to defend its title. The Hawks lost earlier in the day to Detroit 4-3.

The Canucks and Blackhawks played four times during the regular season. On October 20, Chicago won in a shootout at home, 2-1. A month later at Rogers Arena, the Hawks swamped the Canucks 7-1. Roberto Luongo had the shutout in a 3-0 Vancouver win on December 3 in the windy city. The two teams last met on February 4. Daniel Sedin scored with four minutes left in third to give Vancouver a 4-3 triumph in one of the better games of the year at Rogers Arena.

Chicago has eliminated Vancouver from the playoffs the last two years.

Vancouver will have home ice advantage, with Game One on Wednesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. PST.
