Provincial NDP leadership overshadowed by federal election

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With a leadership vote in just a few weeks, two of the BC NDP candidates are talking about the possible buzzkill effect of a federal election.

“I think for the public, we will fall off the burner, no question,” says John Horgan, adding New Democrats have been involved in this campaign for several months, and all his volunteers are fully committed to the project. “I think it’ll be actually a bigger challenge for federal candidates to get some of the people on the leadership teams involved in the federal campaigns, [instead of] the other way around.”

Mike Farnworth also admits a federal election makes it a little bit challenging. “Particularly on the volunteer front. But it’s like any horse race; once you start approaching that finish line on the final week of the campaign, there will be a lot of attention and focus.”

The other candidates in the race are Nicholas Simons, Adrian Dix and Dana Larsen. Canadians vote in the federal election May 2nd.
