Opposition parties plan to trigger election on matter of ethics

TORONTO, Ont. – Federal opposition leaders want to bring down the Harper government for bad behaviour, rather than a bad budget.

The Liberals plan to introduce a motion of non-confidence in the minority government on Friday, claiming it is in contempt of Parliament.

The Bloc Quebecois and New Democrats said they will support the motion, and if they do, would trigger an election for early May.

The Conservatives will run their campaign on the management of an economy that has out-performed most G8 nations through the recession, while holding the opposition responsible for what it will characterize as “reckless behaviour.”

So, whether you feel we need one or not, it appears that by Monday, we’ll know the date of the next federal election — the fourth one in seven years.
