Axe-wielding Whitby woman tasered by police

WHITBY, Ont. – Durham Regional Police were forced to taser a 24 year old woman who refused to put down an axe she was carrying.

Investigators said the axe-wielding woman was confronted by officers in a neighbour’s home, after several calls from concerned residents near Garden Street and Dryden Boulevard were made to police.

When confronted by officers, the woman ignored demands to drop the weapon. She was then tasered.

The woman was immediately taken to hospital. She is being treated for injuries sustained by the taser, and will also undergo a mental assessment.
