Blue Mountain resort faces lawsuit over death of teen girl

COLLINGWOOD, Ont. – Blue Mountain Ski Resort is facing a $2 million lawsuit following the death of a teenage girl during a school trip in March 2009.

Elisabeth Reurink, 17, of London, Ont., was killed when she hit a tree at the bottom of a hill on the resort.

The family names the resort, two ski instructors, as well as the London District Catholic School Board and some of its employees in the lawsuit.

They claim Reurink had not been given enough instruction on how to ski, and was then encouraged by her physical education teacher to ski on a slope which was beyond her abilities.

The law firm representing the family said the teenager’s parents and sisters launched the lawsuit as a way of getting answers on how she died.
