TORONTO, Ont. – The Toronto Transit Commission board has voted to stop selling discounted passes to part-time students.
The TTC says it is too expensive and the move will save $1.4-million.
They voted in December to extend the discount to full-time students at private career colleges.
Including full-time and part-time students in the discount increased the TTC’s projections of lost revenue from the special passes to $7.7-million annually.
Making part-time students ineligible will reduce the impact to $6.3-million.
The decision, which followed two hours of pleading from student representatives Tuesday, came as a disappointment.
The new rule will take effect in September.
A discounted metropass goes for $99 a month, compared to $121 a month for a regular pass.
