Vehicle struck by GO train near Jameson; no injuries

TORONTO, Ont. – A crash on the westbound Gardiner Expressway, Monday, led to a car going off the road and onto train tracks where it was struck by an oncoming GO train.

At one point, GO trains were holding on the Lakeshore line. Service has since resumed, but with delays.

Police told 680News three separate accidents took place at the same time on the westbound Gardiner Expressway, west of Jameson, just after 6 a.m.

One collision sent a car off the road, over the grassy median and up onto the train tracks where it was struck by an oncoming GO train.

Toronto police Const. Hugh Smith told 680News that after getting into back-to-back crashes the female driver is lucky to walk away without injuries.

“To be involved in one, and then be sent right across to another one, and this involving a GO train at that, and then having the ability after the second collision to get out of that vehicle, so you know, they had a couple of angels probably out there, good timing and everybody kept their heads about them,” he said.

Police said the woman’s car got stuck on the train tracks, so she jumped out and watched the train plough into it, smashing the car, but just scratching the train.
