TORONTO, Ont. – A new study suggests that stimulating the brain with electricity can help people solve problems.
The Australian study found electrical stimulation of the brain can bring a flash of insight which can help people solve new, difficult problems.
The stimulation targets the brain’s anterior temporal lobes – the part associated with insight or finding new meaning.
Researchers found volunteers who received the stimulation were three times more likely to be able to figure out an unfamiliar and challenging problem.
The study can be found online in the journal PLoS ONE.
