Winter storm brings misery south of the border

TORONTO, Ont. – The wicked winter storm could affect more than 100 million people across the United States, and flight cancellations have already begun.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm watches, warnings and blizzard warnings in more than 30 states.

Some areas are bracing for as much as three feet of snow — that’s almost 100 centimetres.

A state of emergency has been issued with 600 troops mobilized in Missouri.

As a result, airlines have cancelled about 3,000 flights across the U.S.

The weather service is also warning any Green Bay Packers fans to wait and leave after Wednesday if they’re planning to drive from Wisconsin to Dallas for the Super Bowl.

The impact is also being felt in the GTA, with close to 200 flights cancelled at Pearson International Airport, mostly to and from U.S. destinations.

Porter Airlines has issued a travel advisory saying the storm is affecting all of its flights and destinations.
