Mayor Robertson’s green goals too lofty?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Maybe Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson should rethink his “greenest city action plan.” It may take a while before our city becomes the most sustainable in the world.

Just two years ago, the city wanted to cut greenhouse gas emissions by a third and have the best air and water quality on the planet. Now, city staff are saying those goals should be scaled back.

On the streets today, Jay gives the mayor credit for making some improvements so far. “I think he’s trying; every politician always sets high hopes when they campaign and get into office. I have yet to see anybody succeed with all their ambitions… We do have the bike lanes going, and that’s a start.”

Lou thinks the mayor still has a lot of work ahead of him. “Environmentally, I think he’s about half-way to what he thinks he wants to do. I think it’s still going to take a lot longer than what even he believes or dreams. [I think] some of the things were wrong; the bike lanes are horrendous.”

Lou says the bike lane fiasco will likely cost Robertson his job if he runs in the next municipal election.
