Smokers in Surrey may have to take their butts out of parks

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The City of Surrey could be following in Vancouver’s footsteps by banning smoking in parks. A report going forward today recommends smokers butt out.

Areas like parks, playgrounds, and swimming pools could be smoke-free if the Surrey’s Parks, Culture and Recreation Committee supports the “No Smoking Implementation Plan.”

Smokers are already banned from being any closer than 7.5 metres from doors and windows. If the new plan is approved, smokers would only light up in designated areas.

The committee meets tonight at 7 p.m. to consider the report. Vancouver implemented a similar ban last September.
