Standoff ends on Yonge Street, at Gerrard

TORONTO, Ont. – A two-hour-long police standoff on Yonge Street in downtown Toronto ended peacefully, Tuesday.

Yonge Street has since reopened from College to Gerrard streets.

The incident began just before 7 a.m. when police tried to pull over a car on Yonge, just south of Gerrard.

Toronto police told 680News a passerby thought the driver had a gun.

“After a period of time, with the regular uniformed officers, followed by the ETF and some negotiations, the man came out of the car on his own. He’s been taken into 51 Division,” police said.

There were concerns a weapon was in the vehicle, but none was found.
