Harper sends letter to caucus asking for more input on economic action plan

OTTAWA – Conservative MPs will soon be asking their constituents for advice on what to do about the economy.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has sent a letter to the Tory caucus asking each MP to proactively seek out ideas on the next phase of the government’s economic action plan.
Cabinet members have been doing consultations since the fall, but Harper tells MPs he wants a wider range of input.
In the letter, obtained by The Canadian Press, Harper says the government wants ideas for low-cost ways to create jobs and eliminate government waste.
But he says MP’s must make it clear to Canadians that no massive new spending programs are coming.
The government hopes to wrap up the consultations by the end of January or mid-February, in advance of the next federal budget.
