Liberals say it’s premature to talk about McGuinty leaving after Oct. 6 election

Government insiders said people shouldn’t read too much into Premier Dalton McGuinty’s refusal to say he would serve a full third term in office if the Liberals win the October 6th election.

During a television interview Thursday, McGuinty said he was “not going to speculate as to how long” he would stay as Premier if the Liberals are re-elected in the fall.

However, McGuinty said he was committed to seeing through the policies the Liberals have put in place.

Finance Minister Dwight Duncan noted those policies include closing coal-burning electrical plants by 2014, and full-day learning for kids in kindergarten, which won’t be fully implemented until 2015.

He said that sounds like almost another full term in office, adding any speculation about McGuinty’s early departure is “premature.”
