Toronto bus driver asks Ford to help change TTC public office policy

TORONTO, On. – A Toronto bus driver has asked Mayor Rob Ford to help after he was forced to give up his seat on Oshawa City Council.

The Toronto Transit Commission forbids employees from holding public office positions, and Mike Nicholson told The Toronto Star he was required to choose between the two.

Nicholson gave up his political post, saying he could not support his family on a $35,000 councillor’s salary.

He wants the TTC policy changed.

The City of Oshawa will officially declare Nicholson’s seat vacant on January 10, and it can be filled either by appointment or through a by-election.
