Travellers forced to cope with weather related flight delays

FREDERICTON, N.B. – The wicked storm whipping the east coast has cancelled 187 flights at Pearson, and has resulted in some very unhappy travellers.

New Yorker Catonia Whalen spent Christmas with her family in Fredericton and was supposed to go home Monday, but her Air Canada flight was cancelled, leaving her feeling “a little stranded, I guess, and frustrated.”

“I’m trapped in Fredericton. My original flight was cancelled, and I was rebooked on an earlier flight that was also cancelled and now they’re telling me I can’t get out until the 31st,” she told 680News.

“I was on hold at least two hours each time with Air Canada trying to get someone on the phone – just really frustrating,” she added. “Thankfully I’m at my mom’s house, so I guess just hanging out with family longer this week. They might get sick of me.”

Meanwhile, in Manhattan, people are skiing on the snow-covered roads near Central Park.

“Many portions of the sidewalks have not been cleared yet, so people are walking in the streets,” said reporter Mara Rubin.

“I haven’t seen the city fail to plow the roads like this, ever,” said a resident of the Big Apple.

Most of the flights cancelled at Pearson were to New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
