TORONTO, Ont. – After four days of waiting and wondering, the first Air Canada flight out of Heathrow Airport touched down at Pearson International Airport just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
However, it could take days to clear the backlog caused by all the cancelled flights across Europe.
Air Canada is offering to re-book seats for cancelled flights, but said they won’t have space until December 29.
The head of Heathrow said he will forego his six-figure bonus this year, in light of the criticism for his mishandling of the recent snow storm.
There are allegations the airport operator did not have enough plane de-icer on hand.
Meanwhile, things are slowly returning to normal across Europe.
Only 15 per cent of flights out of Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, have been cancelled on Wednesday. There are only about 70 cancellations posted at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.
