Heavy flurries expected for Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. – The special weather statement issued by Environment Canada for Toronto, Niagara, York and Durham has ended but flurries are still expected into the evening.

City plows and salters are out on the streets dealing with the fallout from snow squalls.

Roads and highways in and around Toronto are covered in snow and in some areas the slushy conditions have been reported.

The OPP says it is typical to see about a hundred preventable crashes in these wintry conditions.

OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford warns drivers to slow down, “Anything can change instantly.  It could be the guy in front of you or the guy behind you.  So you always have to stay focused on your driving completely.”

GO Transit says buses are running 20-30 minutes behind schedule, TTC buses are also moving slower than usual.

Salters have been on the streets all afternoon preparing for the weather.
