Former investment banker appointed chair of Ontario Power Authority

TORONTO, Ont. – A former investment banker has been appointed chairman of the Ontario Power Authority.

The agency that administers the province’s energy policy has hired James Hinds, a native of Sudbury, who previously served at chairman of the Independent Electricity System Operator.

He has been employed by CIBC Wood Gundy Inc., Newcrest Capital Inc. and TD Securities Inc.

Hinds takes over for John Beck, who is stepping down after more than three years and will continue to serve as a board member through a period of transition.

Hinds graduated from law at the University of Toronto, and he has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
