Snow snow everywhere! Southern Ontario gets slammed

TORONTO, Ont. – There were clear skies in Toronto, Wednesday, but to the north, it was quite a different story.

Snow squall warnings remained in effect from Innisfil to Barrie and Midland to Collingwood, and continued into Wednesday evening.

School buses were cancelled for west and central Simcoe County, but schools remained open. The Horseshoe Valley Ski Resort is also open.

In London, Fanshawe College and the University of Western Ontario were closed, and public transit was shut down for the day. The city was still experiencing snow late into Wednesday night.

Barrie, meanwhile, was bracing for another 10 to 15 centimetres of snow, on top of the almost 20 centimetres on the ground in the morning.

The heaviest snowfall amount so far is in Lucan, a town of 1,900 people northwest of London, which had received 167 centimetres of snow as of 6 p.m. – close to six feet.
