PC Leader Hudak shows support for Highway 407 extension in Oshawa

OSHAWA, Ont. – Residents of a north Oshawa, Ont., neighbourhood are concerned their hamlet of Columbus will be wiped out if the Highway 407 extension goes only to Simcoe Street.

They say there will be traffic chaos if the highway doesn’t extend beyond Simcoe and have erected signs reading “Don’t End 407 at Simcoe Street”.

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak showed his support  Friday for the completion of Highway 407 right to Highway 35/115.

He accused Premier Dalton McGuinty of backtracking on a Liberal promise and said the Tories will fight it.

Ajax-Pickering Liberal member Joe Dickson says his government is committed to the 35/115 connection, but the recession has affected plans because of a shortfall of cash.

Meanwhile, with the delays, Oshawa Tory member Jerry Ouelette questions the imminent expropriations and evictions in the area well in advance of the extension.
