Snowy Lower Mainland commute

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – West coast snow toyed with the morning drive today.
In the Tri-Cities, traffic was gridlocked, moving metres in mere minutes. The Barnett Highway offered commuters a way to the open road.
The snow-covered trees and winter landscape is often much lovelier when you’re driving at a steady pace. Perhaps those with snow tires are experiencing less of the great white fear.
At OK Tire in Langley, Trevor Delaney has been changing up to 280 tires a day. “Last night, I was here until 8:45 p.m., and we have so many cars, we can’t even keep the phones open. We can’t even get to the phones, because there are so many people that we’re trying to look after.”
Equipped for winter conditions, drivers we’ve met appear to be taking the tips, warning, and reminders to heart.
A lot of people are opting for transit instead of the car today.
It’s been no sweat, at least along the SkyTrain lines. But for those taking the Canada Line between Richmond and Vancouver, TransLink has had to set up a bridge shuttle bus system. That’s a problem heading out from downtown Vancouver to Richmond and the airport.
