“Snow angels” spotted across the Lower Mainland

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They help push cars, and help neighbours in need clear their driveways. You can call them “Snow Angels,” and they’re examples of how so many of us in the Lower Mainland help out when storms hit.

Just off King Edward Avenue in Vancouver, Paul is helping his elderly mother clear her driveway. He’s already been busy today. “I’ve already done three blocks because I have a snow blower at home. I did all my neighbours’ [sidewalks] for three blocks, each side of the street.”

His mom, Agnes, appreciates the help. “Very good. But I was sweeping, because it’s nice and fluffy… it sweeps very easily.”

We also spoke with Tara, who is more than happy to help out. She also gets some help of her own from her dog, Bear. “My dog loves it. I shovel the snow on to him. He can’t get enough. This is my neighbour’s house. I’ve actually already done mine. This my day off today and it helps out a lot. It’s beautiful, I’m from Alberta so this is nothing. It’s nice.”

Several commuters got a workout this morning, helping stuck drivers out of slippery spots. Through it all, people are laughing, smiling, and enjoying themselves. One man says it’s beautiful and it happens rarely. So we might as well take it with a smile.

News1130 has talked to a couple of homeless people who choose to rough it outside instead of going into shelters. “We got a group of us, everyone brings a little bit of food to the table, and we cook it. We’ve got a remarkable place.”

They also say that the snow doesn’t bother them nearly as much as the rain does.
