TORONTO, Ont. – The OPP has confirmed that at least $56 million was spent on security for the G8 and G20 summits earlier this year.
According to thestar.com, $1.4 million was spent on gas masks, $24,000 on bug jackets, close to $300,000 on portable toilets and almost $9 million on telecom hardware.
Meanwhile, OPP officers made a total of $25.3 million in salary over the June weekend, including $15 million in overtime.
Most of the $56 million total was spent on the G8 meetings in Huntsville, while only $3.7 million was spent for the violence-plagued meetings in Toronto.
